Sony has a long
history of innovation. They brought us the first TV, Camcorder
and Walkman to name a few. Wanting to educate the masses,
Sony used images of the first Walkman and other (not so recent)
groundbreaking technologies in their new
flagship store in George Street, Sydney. Using the latest in graphic
design mediums including glass and metallic finishes, Sony breathed
new life into these old icons.

of Sony’s innovations wrap around the exterior graphics

The
flagship store resonates the innovative message of the Company,
by using translucent Photoglass™ on the glass façade
of the exterior windows. This enhanced the images and patterns
by
transparent, translucent or one-way effects. During the day, the
graphic filters the light into the space. At night the Photoglass™ acts
as a giant lightbox - glowing against the city lights.
Sony wanted to have the ability to close
off some sections within the store to create display spaces. Opaque
Photoglass™ was also used to construct glass partitions
in the retail space.
Inside bamboo imagery was used to create a
harmonious reflective surface to all the ultra modern technology
on display, complementing rather than competing with the technology
on display.
